Ümraniyespor Football Club crest

History

Ümraniyespor Kulübü was founded in 1938 and has worn red and white ever since. Named after the district it represents, the club has travelled a road stretching from amateur leagues to the Süper Lig over more than eighty years; each step of that journey is described in the periods below.

Through The Years

  1. 1938

    Foundation

The club was founded in Ümraniye, a district on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. Red and white were adopted from the first day and have never changed. The founding year became a permanent part of the club's identity: the figure 1938 on the crest carries that date. The 2022-23 season, in which the club reached the Süper Lig, also marked its 85th anniversary.

  2. 1938 – 1984

    The Amateur Years

The club spent its first forty-six years in amateur leagues. This was the period in which Ümraniyespor put down roots in the district and built its support. Sustained at neighbourhood and district level, far from the resources of professional football, this long stretch laid the foundation of the club's identity. As the district became a rapidly growing part of Istanbul, the club became the team of a growing community.

  3. 1984 – 1987

    First Professional Spell

The club was promoted to the TFF 3. Lig in 1984, meeting professional football for the first time. Three seasons later it returned to the amateur ranks. Brief as it was, this first professional experience marked a threshold in the club's history: Ümraniyespor was no longer only a neighbourhood side but a club that had competed professionally. The experience gained in this period prepared the ground for later attempts at promotion.

  4. 1990 – 2010

    Years of Ups and Downs

In these years Ümraniyespor moved between the 3. Lig, the Regional Amateur League and the amateur ranks, competing professionally in 1990-93, 1999-2000 and 2011-14. Spanning more than two decades, this was the club's most volatile period. Every rise was followed by a fall, yet the club never broke apart; youth work and the bond with the district continued throughout.

  5. 2010 – 11

    The Rise Begins

Finishing top of its group in the Regional Amateur League, the club returned to professional football. That season began an unbroken rise lasting a decade. Ümraniyespor never dropped back to the amateur ranks again; on the contrary, successive titles carried it up through the tiers of Turkish football.

  6. 2013 – 14

    TFF 3. Lig Champions

Ümraniyespor won the 3. Lig and were promoted to the TFF 2. Lig. The first professional league title in the club's history, it was the first concrete return on the rise that had begun in 2010. The confidence it brought opened the way for investment in the squad and the facilities in the seasons that followed.

  7. 2015 – 16

    TFF 2. Lig Champions

Winning the title in its second season in the second tier, the club reached the TFF 1. Lig for the first time in its history. Two titles in two seasons carried Ümraniyespor to Turkey's second highest division in short order. The club was now one step away from the Süper Lig.

  8. 2016 – 2022

    The 1. Lig Years

The club spent six seasons in the 1. Lig, developing its academy, its facilities and its corporate structure over that period. Long outside the leading places, the side built on each season and closed in on its Süper Lig target. These six years were the period in which the club proved it belonged in professional football.

  9. 2021 – 22

    Promotion to the Süper Lig

Under Recep Uçar the team collected 70 points from 36 matches, with 21 wins, 7 draws and 8 defeats. Finishing second behind MKE Ankaragücü, Ümraniyespor reached the Süper Lig for the first time in its history. Arriving 84 years after the club's founding, the achievement meant a district club had climbed to the top division of Turkish football.

  10. 2022 – 23

    The Süper Lig Season

The club played its first Süper Lig match away to Fenerbahçe on 8 August 2022, drawing 3-3 to take its first point in the division. Played with nineteen teams, the season began on 5 August 2022 and ended on 7 June 2023. Ümraniyespor finished 17th and was one of the two clubs relegated, alongside Giresunspor. Lasting a single season, this period coincided with the club's 85th anniversary and stands as the highest rung in its history.

  11. 2023 –

    Back in the 1. Lig

The club has competed in the TFF 1. Lig since 2023 and continues to aim for a return to the Süper Lig. After relegation the squad was rebuilt, with emphasis on players from the academy and young signings. Beginning the 2026-27 season in the Trendyol 1. Lig, the side struggled for points in the opening weeks before taking its first three points of the campaign away at Bandırmaspor in week eight.
