The first nine weeks in numbers

The table says 7 points. The match records explain how that number came about: we dropped exactly 7 points in the three games we led.

Nine weeks of the Trendyol 1. Lig are behind us. Ümraniyespor have taken 7 points from those nine matches — one win, four draws and four defeats — scoring 7 goals and conceding 10.

That is all the league table says. The match records draw a more detailed picture of how those numbers came about.

Seven Points Dropped From Winning Positions

Here is the season's most striking figure. In all three matches where we went into the break ahead, we failed to hold the lead:

  • Week 4, away at Keçiörengücü: 2-1 up at half time, finished 2-2.

  • Week 7, home to Antalyaspor: 1-0 up at half time, finished 1-2.

  • Week 9, home to Sarıyer: 1-0 up at half time, finished 1-1.

Those three games cost seven points. The team's current total is also seven. Had the leads been held, our tally would have doubled.

First Half 4-3, Second Half 3-7

Add up the half-time scores from all nine matches and the goal difference reads 4-3 — we are in credit at the interval. Add up the full-time scores and it becomes 7-10.

The gap is the second halves themselves: 3-7.

When The Goals Arrive

Our seven goals came in the 1st, 11th, 14th, 23rd, 70th, 71st and 88th minutes. Four inside the opening half hour, three in the closing twenty. Between the 31st and 69th minute we have not scored at all this season.

The nine goals we conceded came in the 26th, 30th, 34th, 60th, 71st, 73rd, 73rd, 75th and 90th minutes. Four are clustered between the 60th and 75th; by contrast we have not conceded a single goal in the opening quarter of an hour.

Placed side by side, the two lists describe one rhythm: a side that starts quickly and cedes the initiative midway through the second half.

Possession Is Not Enough

The relationship between possession and results has run in reverse this season. We lost all three matches in which we clearly outpossessed the opponent:

  • Muğlaspor (home): 66% possession, 0-1.

  • Fatih Karagümrük (away): 59% possession, 1-2.

  • Pendikspor (away): 57% possession, 0-1.

The season's only win came in the match where we saw least of the ball. Away at Bandırmaspor we held just 32% possession — and won 1-0.

What The Numbers Say

A nine-match sample is too short for firm conclusions. But three patterns reinforce one another: a team that starts well, reaches half time level or ahead, and cannot protect the scoreline midway through the second half.

There is an encouraging side to this. Every dropped point came from within the game itself: in nine matches the side took the lead four times. The difficulty is not in establishing an advantage but in holding it. Improvement under that single heading could change our league position quickly.
