This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

The successful candidate will be offered a tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant Professor, which is in accordance with the , and offers a comprehensive .

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Hydrogeology.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervise graduate students, and participate in service to the department, faculty, university, and profession.

We seek a scholar whose research addresses fundamental and applied problems in groundwater systems, including, but not limited to: characterizing subsurface flow-fields, groundwater-surface water interactions, regional fluid flow, contaminant transport and fate, subsurface characterization, cold regions, and water resources. Research that integrates field-based methods with numerical and/or laboratory approaches, particularly with relevance to western Canada, is highly desired. Applicants whose work complements existing departmental strengths in geoscience, including environmental geoscience, geochemistry, sedimentology, cold regions geoscience, geomicrobiology, or resource-environment interactions, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an independent, externally funded research program in hydrogeology.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in hydrogeology and related subject areas, with particular emphasis on Introductory Hydrogeology, Contaminant Hydrogeology and field-methods.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Contribute to administrative and service activities at the department, faculty, and university levels, and engage with professional or external partners as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Engineering Geoscience or a closely related discipline is required at the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of demonstrated strong research potential.
  • Demonstrated commitment to, or clear potential for, effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Postdoctoral research experience is considered an asset.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary research or applied collaboration is considered an asset.
